About Dr. Xu

Dr. Dixon H. Xu is a board-certified podiatric surgeon with specialization in foot and ankle reconstructions, limb salvage and sports medicine. He employs both evidence-based surgical and medical methods in treating injuries and ailments of the lower extremities.

Dr. Xu grew up in the Los Angeles area and embarked on his medical journey while participating in a basic science research program at the City of Hope National Medical Center during high school. He earned the congressional recognition for early interest and efforts in research following completion of the program.

He then earned his bachelor degree with double majors in Biochemistry and Spanish while attending Cornell College on the presidential scholarship. He also worked as a volunteer firefighter while studying abroad in Guatemala. He later received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was inaugurated into the national Pi Delta honor society while in school and earned academic awards for top student in six subject areas. He later received the Michael L. Stone Award for Outstanding Professional Conduct and was recognized at the national American College Foot & Surgeon Scientific Conference in 2017.

Dr. Xu then returned to the sunny southern California and finished his internship and residency training at Scripps Mercy and Scripps Green Hospitals with affiliated rotations at Navy Medical Center, UC San Diego, Sharp Healthcare and Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center. He spent the last year of his residency dedicated to lower extremity trauma and reconstruction surgeries at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento Valley.

Dr. Xu is well published and is the lead author on four peer reviewed scientific articles. He also contributed to the book chapter on bunion surgeries. He presented his research at the Podiatry Institute seminars, American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) national meeting and American College of Foot and Ankle (ACFAS) scientific conference.

Dr. Xu lives in the South Bay with his wife, son, four cats and a dog. He enjoys graphic design, photography and hiking on his spare time.
